Holstein Association Honors Area Youth Richard Krall win this honor. Linda now owns 7 Registered Holslteins, 6 females and a bull named Roscoe. Her cow, Penn Springs Bill Maid, was the top selling cow in the Penn Springs Dispersal in 1972. Linda, currently a senior in high school, is a member of the Band Front and Chorus. She was on Lan caster County’s winning 4-H Dairy Judging Team. In addition to church activities, she sings with a group called “A New Song.” Cynthia Knight, 16, of Airville, Pa. has earned finalist honors in the Pa. Distinguished Junior Member Contest. Sylvia Cooper, 18, of Slippery Rock in Butler County, has gained a finalist spot in the Pa. Distinguished Junior Member Contest. Miss Cooper was Western Pa’s, lone winner in this year’s contest. The daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wade Cooper, she now attends Slippery Rock State College and is in her Sophomore year, majoring in environmental science. Still living at home, she is able to help out on the Complete Building Service Sandy Miller family-run farm operation. She owns 5 Registered Holsteins. One of her cows has a record of 20,000 lbs. of milk while another is scored Very Good at 85 points. Sylvia’s records show she sold nearly $4,000 worth of milk last year along. She is also active in sewing projects, church youth groups, and sings in the choir. Sandy Lynn Miller, 17, of Hamburg RD2, earned finalist honors in the recent Pennsylvania Distinguished Junior Member Contest. Sandy was this year’s Berks County winner and competed with other winners from across the state. She currently owns 9 Registered Holsteins. Miss Miller is a 9 year veteran of the Virginville 4-H Club and has also been a a Junior Member of the Holstein Association for that long. Along with her 4-H dairy projects, Sandy has carried numerous sewing, cooking, knitting, photography, and teen leader projects. No stranger to awards anc honors, Nevin has been named County Star Fanner and has been awarded the Keystone Fanner Degree Other awards included the DeKalb Award, Elks Youth Award, Danforth Award, and medals for public speaking, crop and dairy production.
