Other speakers at the conference were Herman Hellberg, an Extension Executive Committee president from Bucks County; Joe Patemo, Penn State football coach; Dr Beattie; and Dr. King. County government of* ficials and a member of the Lancaster Extension Service took part in a Symposium for County Commissioners, September 17-18, on The Pennsylvania State University main campus. Those attending were County Commissioners Raymond Herr, Chairman; Mrs. Jean Mowery, Paul Paes, and M. M. Smith, County Extension Director. Smith points out that the symposium was designed to show how College of Agriculture Extension and Research programs at Penn State relate to and benefit the total educational Ex tension effort. Sponsor of the two-day symposium was the 68- member organization of the Agricultural Advisory Council, in cooperation with County Extension Associations and the College jf Agriculture. The group was welcomed to the campus by University President Dr. John W. Oswald; Dr. James M. Beattie, dean of the College of Agriculture; Dr. Thomas B. King, associate dean for Extension; and John L. Walker, vice president of the Agricultural Advisory Council. The 185 participants toured College of Agriculture facilities including the Pesticides Research laboratory. Soil and Forage Testing Laboratory, and Meats Laboratory They visited with faculty mem bers on such topics as managing forest insects, soil testing, potato blight forecasting, and food quality and safety.
