38— Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 24, 1974 Ag Progress Days Schedule One of the mam activities at Ag Progress Days will be the State Plowing Contest which has been scheduled for Wednesday morning, August 28 beginning at 10:00 a.m. on a site 2 miles from the Fairgrounds. A host of other events ranging from machinery demonstrations to craft displays will also be held. Here is a schedule of events: Machinery demonstrations, both days (Beginning at 10 a.m.) Corn silage harvesting Pennsylvania crafts "Big package" haymakers Soil injection of liquid manure Tillage equipment No-till corn planters Chemical applicators Other activities, both days Statewide hay crop silage, corn silage and hay shows Home, family living demonstrations Educational exhibits Youth events Commercial exhibits Environmental improvement Dairy and livestock programs Field crops exhibits WHY DRY CORN? Here’s what you’ll see: Home horticulture display - a unique program for rural and urban people will feature a garden exhibit showing techniques used m the main tenance of trees, shrubs, ferns and flowers. During the evening program, August 28, lawn and garden equipment will be demonstrated. Forest resources activities those attending the field day will see demonstrations on forest fire control by helicopter, tree harvesting and handling equipment, fire wood processing, and forest insect control. Exhibits will include pole barn and log cabin materials, paper recycling and the various uses of maple sugar products. Youth activities • 4-H clubs, FFA and FHA chapters will provide educational programs for rural and urban youth including conservation, garden tractor and bicycle driving contests! evening of 28th; and a horse show and pony rides for fun and relaxation. Dairy program -- a varied program for those interested in the dairy business has been planned. You’ll see a calf feeding and housing exhibit, (automated milk testing demonstration, commercial 'exhibits featuring milk systems and equipment, automated feeding systems and the latest Al 'techniques. r I Environmental improvement -- you’ll see how people have created environmental problems that affect our communities. The exhibit will also show how proper land use and design coupled with land use policy will help eliminate many of these man made problems. Livestock events -- efficient production of livestock will be featured in exhibits and demon strations. New ideas in livestock handling, cross breeding and the introduction of new breeds of beef cattle will be presented. A meat buyers guide will show fresh standard retail cuts of red meat. Home and family living - over 100 selected crafts will be on display with many craftsmen demon strating and selling their products.
