This program provides a unique educational ex perience aimed at improving the abilities of people to munity Affairs Program make informed public decisions and furthering the development of leadership for Pennsylvania’s com munities. This opportunity for young men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 is made possible through a grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and con tributions from businesses, corporations, and in dividuals throughout Penn sylvania. The program consists of a series of three to four day workshops, totaling 30 days of instruction, discussion and field trips conducted over a two year period. The workshops will include case studies, talks by specialists and seminars that are problem oriented and focusing on topics in economics, sociology, Lebanon County Plowing Contest Set The Lebanon* County Plowing Contest will be held August 21, 1974 on the farm of George Wolff, Myerstown R.D. This year’s contest site lies along Route 422, near the Calcite Quarry at Prescott. The contest will begin at 11:00 a.m. Contest Manager Harvey Bomgardner, Route 3, Ann ville, says that plowmen from Lebanon County may enter any one of three contests. The Level Land Small Plow Contest is for tractors pulling up to three bottoms. The Level Land Large Plow Contest admits tractors pulling four or more bottoms. Any size tractors and plows may qualify to enter the Contour Plowing Contest. Winner will be awarded cash prizes and trophies. A special feature this year will again be a soil judging demonstration, sponsored by the Lebanon Soil Con servation District. Several distinct soil types may be seen in the general vicinity of the plowing site. To provide further educational interest, local machinery dealers have Growing Degree Days In Lancaster County, the average temperature for the week was 71 degrees which is 3 degrees less than the normal. Instructors will be drawn from the Penn State faculty and recognized leaders from organizations, government, and industry will lead discussions on problems with which they have first hand experience. First place winners in each of the three contests are expected to represent Lebanon County in the State Plowing Contest at Bloomsburg on August 28. Last Year’s winners were Sven Bomberger, Fredericksburg; Carl Bomgardner, Anville; and Mark Bomgardner, Ann ville. Carl Bomgardner placed 3rd in the State Contest at Hershey.
