“but until I graduate from
college things could
change.”
Besides sports, Wylie was
also active in the National
Honor Society and the
Varsity Club at school.
When asked how she got
interested in horses, Wylie
remarked that her family
had always been interested
in horses especially her
mother’s relatives.
“I got my first horse in 7th
grade when I was 12 and
have been interested in them
ever since,” she explained.
Wylie’s parents also help
with the Silver Spurs Club

meetings at their home. The
club has been trying to in
clude many educational
programs into their
meetings. They have invited
many speakers including
veterinarians to address the
group.
Since she will be going
away to college in the fall,
Wylie will be selling her
horse My Star Wonder.
“I would like to keep the
horse,” she explained “but it
would be too much for my
sister to take care.”
Before she leaves, Wylie
hopes to be able to ride in the
County 4-H show to be held in
August at the Lancaster
Riding Club.

Win Regional Awards
Fifteen Lancaster County
4-H Members participated in
Region 4-H Demonstration
Day, July 12, at Northern
High School, York County.
Nancy and Susan Herr,
Lancaster, and Gary
Brubaker, Lancaster and
Ken Longenecker, Lititz
were chosen to represent
Lancaster County at 4-H
State Days at Penn State
August 5-7.
Earning merit awards in
the Senior demonstration
division were Genieve
Gibson, Jane Gregory,
Barbara Myer and Phillip
Risser.

Martha Gregory and Cindy
Risser were both awarded
blue ribbons for their junior
demonstrations.
Speaking on “Op
portunity”, Joe Lefever,
Manheim also won a blue
ribbon and will participate in
the state public speaking
contest.
From among five counties,
Lancaster placed second in
the Horse Bowl Competition.
Team members included
Judi Anderson, Cheri
Gochnauer, Leon Matron!
and Jenny Weber. They will
also participate m state
competition.
Outstanding
Producers
Several Holstein cows
from the herd of Jefferson D.
Yoder, RDI, Elverson, Pa.,
have been recognized for
their outstanding food
producing ability.
Rocky-Side Apollo
produced 27,413 pounds of
milk in 365 days with a 3.9
percent test and 1072 pounds
of fat. Rocky-Side Fond Hope
produced 24,197 pounds of
milk in 365 days with a 4.2
percent test and 1011 pounds
fat.
Other cows recognized
were Rocky-Side Smokey
Kitty, Rocky-Side Ted Kay,
Rocky-Side Performer Dixie
and Rocky-Side Ted Maggie.
