Funding Announced
Final arrangements for
funding the jtate Youth
Conservation Corps pilot
program were announced
recently by Secreatary of
Agriculture Earl L. Butz and
Secretary of the Interior
Rogers C. B. Morton.
Now going into its fourth
year, the Youth Con
servation Corps (YCC)
program will this summer
for the first time Include
state-operated projects in
addition to the 178 con
servation corps camps on
U.S. Department of the
Interior’s Bureau of Indian
Affairs, Bureau of Land
Management, Bureau of
Reclamation, Bureau of
Sports Fisheries and Wildlife
and the National Park
Service.
For this first summer of
state participation in the
YCC program, $3 million in
grant funds have been made
available to the states for
cost-share projects on non
federal public lands and
waters. Grants have been
awarded and all available
grant funds obligated, the
two secretaries said. They
emphasized that youth

of Alabama, Hawaii,

Virgin Islands, Guam,

derstanding and ap
preciation of the nation’s
natural environment and
heritage.
