Mississippi that have been identified as potentially having excessive Fall Panicum dieldrin residues. Birds from those flocks can’t be processed and marketed* until they receive a clean bill of health. Secretary Butz also commended the courageous decision of the few broiler producers in Mississippi whose flocks are being destroyed because of the residue problem. “Even though their action may mean suffering huge financial losses, they have chosen to promptly destroy their flocks. This decision to give maximum protection to consumers by foregoing any salvage of birds with marginal residue levels took raw courage,” the Secretary concluded.
