36—Lancaster Farming. Saturday. Mar. 23. 1974 Flower and Garden Show (Continued from Page 34| Terrariums and hanging plants, both of which are enjoying tremendous popularity now, were found repeatedly being used in exhibits and arrangements. Gazebos were featured in several garden settings, but one of the most interesting and attention-getting was a gazebo filled with more than 50 varieties of ferns. The display was done by Meadowbrook Farm, and was a real treat in greenery. The Pennsylvania Bonsai Society generated a lot of in terest for its extensive display of bonsai, including miniature trees ranging from three inches to three feet, rock plantings and saikei. Some of the trees were reportedly between 50 to 150 years old, and were stunted by weather and growing conditions in nature. Perhaps the most outstanding feature of the show is that each flower, each arrangement and each plant is the result of long hours of hard work and dedication on the part of the exhibitor. As Lueck puts it, “The people who exhibit here are experts in handling and grooming plants. In most shows you see the ultimate. In this show they take the ultimate and carry it even further.” The flower show was a delightful treat to a totally different world - a world of eternal springtime and beauty, but, alas, it was a brief visit, and the escalator ride back up to the real world brought the women back to cool temperatures and the windy days of March.
