Static electricity generated by friction as the thread passes through the fabric attracts thread to itself. When the thread is attracted to itself, it forms a twist which can then turn into a knot. When sewing at home, there t « t ewng service YOU HEARD? are several things you can do to help eliminate knots and curls in polyester thread. When taking thread off the spool, let the spool roll in' one hand as you draw thread with the other. Cut, rather than break, the. thread on a slant. Thread the end cut from the spool into the needle eye and tie a knot in the other end. Use the thread in lengths no longer than 18-inches and sew loosely. Two guests of Mrs. Herman Shirk were enjoyed. The regular program was carried out by president Mrs. Freida Huber. Donations by Mrs. Mary Miller and business meeting followed. XXX Shoe Prices Increase Although leather makes up only a small part of the cost of shoes, it’s the record high leather prices which have increased the cost of footwear. These higher prices result from strong demand for leather on the world market and a drop in Argentina’s hide exports. These factors, combined with a halt in the production of two leather-like synthetics, have caused the higher prices. The high cost of this raw material results in higher prices all the way down the line of shoemaking. First, at the processors, where hides are bnned, trimmed, sorted and graded; then in the the tanneries where special finishes, colors and coatings are applied; at the manufacturers who add tongues, soles, heels and laces; and finally to the stores and you, the con sumer.
