Rohrer’s Top

Roy Rohrer won three class
victories, including the grand
champion wrapper and filler
tobacco. In the three classes he
didn’t take top prize he took
second places.
The lone grand championship
Roy didn’t take was in the binder
class. His nephew, Eugene
Rohrer, won that ribbon. Eugene
took that grand champion ribbon
with the first place long binder
entry. Witmer J. Rohrer, Roy’s
brother and Eugene’s father,
took first in the short binder
category.
Roy was competing in his 37th
county tobacco show.
His carefully selected hands of
tobacco won him the long
wrappers class, long filler and
short filler.

Tobacco Show
The only non-Rohrer who won
an event was John H. Hershey,
Lititz RD2. Hershey showed the
top short wrapper tobacco class
winner.
In the FFA competion which
preceded the adult judging, 17-
year-old Raymond Dohner, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Dohner, took
the grand champion ribbon with
his wrapper tobacco.
The FFA event was also kept in
the family as Raymond’s 15-year
old brother, Marlin, had the
second place wrapper.
Roger Frey, Conestoga RD2,
had the champion hand of filler
tobacco which gave the Penn
Manor FFA Chapter seven
placings out of the top five places
fn the two classes.
The Dohner brothers took the
only ribbons for Elizabethtown

In the corn contest, Kerry
Boyd, son of Elmer Boyd,
Ephrata RDI, had the winning
entry.'He was also the top corn
exhibitor in last week’s 4-H corn
competition.
John Yocum, superintendent of
the Southeast Pennsylvania Field
Research Laboratory at Lan
disville judged the corn entries
while L. C. Whitmer, American
Cigar Co., and A. Kenneth Mann
Jr., A. ,K. Mann Tobacco Co.,
judged the tobacco contest.
