Energy Management In 1974
A national campaign to stress
“energy management” for the
nation’s farmers in 1974 was
jointly announced today by
Secretary of Agriculture Earl L.
Butz and representatives of the
Farm and Industrial Equipment
Institute, Chicago, and the
National Farm & Power
Equipment Dealers Association,
St. Louis.
In announcing the campaign,
Secretary Butz stressed that
“every gallon of fuel saved is
another gallon available to use to
increase production on that in-

contribute their time, effort and
money to this fine educational
program.
To assist them in reducing their
1973 income taxes, a number of
items may be claimed as
charitable deductions by those
leaders who itemize their
deductions.
The following deductible items
can be included;
Out of pocket transportation
expenses, including cost for use
of cars or trucks to and from all 4-
H sponsored events, necessarily
incurred in rendering donated
service to 4-H"

A feature of the campaign
includes distribution of a poster
outlining ways to save
energy}” and a certification

farm trucks.
The poster will be distributed
by the farm machinery industry
to dealers for display. The ways
suppested to save energy are: (1)
tune up engines to save fuel and
increase power; (2) reduce
tillage to save up to two gallons of
fuel per acre; (3) combine field
operations to save another two
incurred by 4-H adult leaders in
attending contests, training
courses and other 4-H sponsored
events. This includes meals,
lodging and transportation ex
penses while away from home.
Cash contributions and con
tributions in kind, such as
equipment, paints and other
supplies. The amount to be
deducted is the fair market value
at the time the gift was made. No
deduction is allowable for the
“timd” you contribute.
