Tuesday afternoon was biting cold and Famed livestock judge Herman Purdy was
windy, but,these Lancaster County 4-H'ers on hand to pick the 35 animals that will
competed anyway in the annual Baby Beef represent the county in January at the
Roundup held at the Lancaster Stockyards. Pennsylvania Farm Show.

Wednesday’s District Show
was won for the tenth time in 12
years by a Chester Countran and
for the 15th year in a row by an
Angus steer. The reserve
champion steer was also a
Chester County Angus, shown by
William Wylie, Nottingham RD2.
His 1090-pound animal was sold
for 77-cents a pound to the
Lancaster County Farm
Restaurant, Elizabethtown RDI.
The restaurant had bid un
successfully for the champion
steer.

by a Lancaster County 4-H’er was
a Hereford. Karen Weaver,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jason
Weaver, Quarryville RD2, won
with her first place heavyweight
steer.
Her 1,100-pound steer was sold
to Commonwealth National Bank
for 64 cents a pound, netting
Karen $704.
The reserve Hereford cham
pion was shown by Betty Reiff,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan
Reiff, Lititz RDI. Her 995-pound
steer was sold to Carl Venezia,
Conshocken, for 54.5 cents a
pound, or $542.27.
The champion crossbred steer
was exhibited by Howard
Stoltzfus, GlenJMoore RDI. Watt
and Shand Department Stores
purchased the 1,305 pound steer

Glen Moore RDI; and Betty
Reiff, Lititz RDI.
The top trio of steers was won
by Chester County with Lan
caster County taking second and
Dauphin County taking third.

Joe Lefever showed his crossbred steer to top showmanship
honors Tuesday afternoon at the annual Lancaster County 4-
H Baby Beef Roundup held at the Lancaster Stockyards.
Lefever’s animal was also one of those chosen to compete in
the Pennsylvania Farm Show in January. The Manheim RD4
youth’s showmanship efforts won him the prize steer
awarded annually by the Lancaster Intel).
