Mrs. Roy Weinhold was the hostess. Mrs. Clarence Stauffer was in charge of the business meeting. Reports were given on Homemakers Day held at the Farm and Home Center on November 15 by Mrs. Ivan Eberly. Society 3 had a display of Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations. Mrs. Harold Steelers reported on the Lan caster County tour of October 20. Mrs. Jay Miller reported that 300 pads were made for the Cancer Society. The following contributions were made: $25. to the Tuber culosis Society; $lOO. to Teen Challenge and 15 pair of mittens, made for the Lancaster County Extension Service Christmas party, to be given to needy families. Reverend Reginald G. Yoke, executive director of the Teen Challenge Training Center of Rehersburg, spoke on the work of Teen Challenge. Society 8 Farm Women Society 8 met in the Lutheran Church, Mt. Joy, Saturday, November 17th. Twenty-five members and four visitors were present and Miss Anna Mae Eby presided over the meeting. Mrs. Ann Shank ac companied several Thanksgiving songs sung by the group, on the piano. Mrs. Anna Keener led the devotional period including Thanksgiving thoughts. Mrs. Alice Myers gave safety pointers which should be observed while driving. The minutes were read by Miss Mary Grace Martin, secretary. A note of appreciation was read by Mrs. Viola Greider which was sent from the Lloyd Stoner family expressing their thanks for flowers and cards sent to Mrs. Marie Stoner, who resides in their home since her illness. Eleven members helped sew at the General Hospital on October 30th, with several additional groups. One hundred and seventy-five pieces were made and much mending was done. Thirteen menbers attended the County Convention. Mrs. Norman Shenk, Mt. Joy RD2 was the guest speaker for the afternoon. She shared her knowledge of the technique of decoupage. She had numerous pictures on display which she has made. She expressed the im portance for learning to ac complish something with our hands. Society 10 “Giving thanks is a course from which we never graduate” was the theme of a meeting held in the Refton Fire Hall by members of Farm Women Society 10 when Mrs. Charles Shertz, Miss Ida Kunkle and Mrs. Clifford Shoemaker served as hostesses. Mrs. Shoemaker also 'was in charge of the devotional portion of the program. Donald Shipley spoke on safety education and told the ladies that the energy crisis could be helped if people would heed the precautionary measures outlined by the President. Also he noted that in his travels, he observes drivers on throughways and on little travelled roads and reports speeding appears to be the same as before the 50 mph suggestion was 1 " publicized ... “a situation which is sad indeed,” he says, “because reducing speed to 50 miles per _ hour would automatically reduce the ac cident rate in automobiles.” Since according to his statistics speed is considered the prime cause of most serious accidents, Mr. Shipley advocates a light foot on the accelerator. During the business portion, Society 10 approved gifts of cash to Christmas Seals and to Mental Health earmarked for the private home care of mentally 111 or retarded adults. Serving the society as officers, who will assume full duties in January, are Mrs. Jay Habecker, president; Mrs. Cyrus Neff; first vice president and Mrs. Morris Miller, second vice president. Mrs. Jacob Evans is secretary assisted by Mrs. Abram Miller. Miss Ida B. Kunkle is corresponding secretary and Mrs. Frank Hodecker serves as treasurer. The next meeting is planned at noon, December 1 when Mrs. Charles Stauffer will be hostess at the Lime Spring Farm in Rohrerstown. A gift exchange and Christmas music will be featured at this annual meeting, a highlight of the Society year. Each person present made either a door piece or a table cen terpiece. Miss Ethel Kendig, vice president, was in charge of the meeting. She reported a total of 142 articles brought in for Needlework Ingathering, plus a $lO donation. Mrs. Donna Henry and Mrs. Eleanor Longsberry had charge of refreshments. The next meeting will be a Christmas party at 1:30 p.m. December 15 at the home of Dorothy Sangrey, Conestoga RD2. Mrs. Grace Foutz will be cohostess. There will be a $2 gift exchange. Society 14 Mrs. Willis Rohrer of SmOketown was hostess to Farm Women Society 14 at her home on Wednesday afternoon. A donation of $lO.OO was given to the United Campaign and $lO.OO to LARC.
