Lititz Girl Wins Capon Roundup In her second year of com petition, 11-year-old Linda Hershey, 304 Newport Road, Lititz, captured top prize in the 19th annual Lancaster County Capon Roundup held Tuesday at the Lancaster Elks Club. The event is sponsored each year by the Lancaster Kiwanis Club. Linda is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. Richard Hershey, ' and she’s a sixth-grader at Locust Grove Mennonite School. Her two nine-pound dressed capons were declared best of show by judge Larry Yager, the area marketing agent working out of Penn State. Prize money for the event came from the Kiwanians, who donated 100 silver dollars in prize money. The club members also bought the chickens, paying $l.lO a pound. Second place in the contest went to Craig Hamish, a 14-year old freshman at Penn Manor High School. Craig is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl G. Hamish, Lancaster RD6. Linda Hershey’s sister, Doris, 15, won third. The capons, which ranged in weight up to 11 pounds, were purchased last June from Mervin Pieffer, Manheim RDI. At the time of distribution, the young capons were two to four weeks old.
