I Farm Women | Societies Society 1 The Society of Farm Women 1 met at the home of Mrs. Graybill Hollinger at 1 p.m. Nov. 10. Mrs. Neil dark was co-hostess. Fif teen members attended the meeting. - Mrs. Noah Kreider was in charge of devotions and Mrs. Roy Brubaker was song leader. Roll call was answered by members stating something they were thankful for. Mrs. Paul Kurtz, president, presided at the business meeting. The Society donated $3O for mittens lot Retarded Children. It was announced that the State Convention will be held at the Penn Harris Hotel January 7-8, 1974. The Freemen will provide the entertainment. Delegates are needed to attend the convention. Tickets for the banquet will be available at the December meeting. A demonstration on gift wrapping was presented by Mrs. Wallace Heisey, Manheim. The next society meeting-will be held at the home of Mrs. Kurtz at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. A surprise meeting has been planned. High St. Farm Women Society 2 members held their monthly meeting Nov. 10 at the home of Mrs. Paul Donough, Manheim RD4. Mrs. Marlin Hosier was cohostess. There were 23 members and five visitors present. Mrs. Lewis Sauder presented the devotions. The president, Mrs. Jay Witmer, conducted the business meeting. Donations were given to the United drive and the Tuber culosis Society. Mrs. Robert Bucher of Conestoga RDI gave a demon stration on making flowers from material to form a candle ring, as well as fruit made from styrofoam and tissue paper. Friday, Dec. 14, a cookie sale will be held in front of the Silco Store in Manheim. The next meeting will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Mastersonville Fire Hall starting at A covered dish dinner will be held. Grocery baskets will be packed for needy people. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Eli Harnish and Mrs. Frank Reighard. Mrs. Reba Gring led devotions. Gifts of money were sent to Mental Health and Christmas Seals. Plans were begun for celebration of the Societies 50th anniversary to be held in March 1974. Members are requested to give ideas to Mrs. Paul Zercher, president. The 'program com mittee will plan the celebration. Plans to visit the McCormick Spice Company and Fort McHenry were tentatively planned for April. Twenty-five baskets of fruit were packed and distributed to shutins of the Conestoga area. A Christmas party is planned for December 7at6;3op.m. in the Refton Fire Hall, with husbands and friends as guests. A gift exchange will be featured and each member is asked to bring childrens gloves or mittens for distribution to needy children in Lancaster County. Society 19 Farm Women Society 19 met for the November meeting at the East Petersburg Church of the Brethren. Mrs. J. Lloyd Hollinger, 6045 Lemon Street, East Petersburg, served as hostess. Mrs. Robert White gave a devotional on “A Thankful Heart.” Mrs. John Ruhl, president, conducted the business meeting and reminded members of the Homemakers Christmas Program at the Farm and Home Center. A donation of $lO was voted to the Lancaster County Mental Health Association. Mrs. Fred Rice, Elizabeth town, presented the program. She gave a candle holder demonstration, including a display of completed holders she previously created. Historic Strasburg will provide the setting for the Christmas banquet to be held at 6:30 p.m. December 8 when husbands will be entertained. Saturday, November 17,1975—27 Society 22 Farm Women Society 22 were entertained Tuesday afternoon at the Farm and Home Center when Mrs, John Hess presented a program of Christmas decorations, ideas and candies. Mrs. Henry Hess and Mrs. William Weller, the hostesses, served refreshments and Mrs. Weller also conducted the devotions. Society 22 voted to attend the show “Flowers For Algernon” on December 11, at the Fulton Theater, as a benefit for the Lancaster Association For Retarded Children. This is being done instead of exchanging Christmas gifts among the members. The Society is sending $25 to its adopted daughter, Gracelia Picola Picola, from Guatemala, for gifts for Christmas and for her birthday. The following members will serve as delegates to the State Convention in Harrisburg: Mrs. Henry Hess, Mrs. Lester Landis, Mrs. Richard Landis, Mrs. Wilmer Andrew, Mrs. Kenneth Hoover and Mrs. Jay Landis. Mrs. Willis Lefever gave a report of the County Convention. Six members of Society 22 took part in the “Sew-a-Dress” fashion show. Mrs. Richard Landis was one of the finalists and will have an opportunity to compete at the State Convention in January. Mrs. Carl Diller, a member of Society 22, was elected second vice-president of the Lancaster County Farm Women. The monthly prize, “The Pig”, was won by Mrs. Jack Robinson. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Cloyd Wenger, 1804 Pioneer Road, Lancaster, Pa., following the show on December 11, 1973. Society 23 Farm Women Society 23 met recently at the home of Mrs. Milton Funk, Washington Boro RDI. Every member par ticipated in the devotional portion with a Bible quotation relating to Thanksgiving. A cookie swap was the program feature, during which the cookies each member brought were tasted and exchanged and recipes copies. During the business portion of the meeting $25 was approved for the Mental Health Association. Plans were made to pack a grocery box for each of several local families and to take the children from those families Christmas shopping for a few “extras”. Mrs. Howard Martin, president, commended the group for earning an attendance award at the County Convention. She also congratulated Mrs. Edgar Funk and Mrs. Charles Frey for winning the honor of representing Lancaster County, along with eight other contestants from other local Societies, in the State Sew a Garment contest to be held during the State Farm Show in Harrisburg in January. Mrs. Benjamin Shenk was appointed to relieve Mrs. John Newswanger. Plans for a food stand at the sale of the Clayton Shenk estate were finalized. The group will serve chicken corn soup, sand wiches and beverages. Mrs. Paul Funk, Mrs. Glenn Burkholder and Mrs. Robert Miller were appointed to study and revise the local club by-laws. The next meeting will be held December 4 in the home of Mrs. Howard Martin, Lancaster RD2, retiring president. A Christmas party and gift exchange is planned. BARBER OIL CO.
