again characterized by generally
good demand and price down

trade was a slow affair. Canadian
buyers competed aggressively
for high-Good to average Choice
950-1125 pound yield grade 2-3
steers and feeder buyers afforded
active competition for partly
fattened 950-1050 pound steers
suitable for a short turn in
feedlot. Weight and yield grade
prevailed as the primary price
determining factors as outlet for
well finished 1250-1350 pound
steers was erratic and prices
quite uneven. Liberal percentage

Ready to cook movement
continues fairly good on whole
chickens, however often light and
disappointing on parts, especially
legs. Slaughter schedules remain
heavy in all quarters. Less than
trucklot prices held unchanged
on both plant and US Grade A.
Advance interest slow in
developing as buyers and shelters
await further market develop
ments. Live supplies continue
burdensome at weights well
above normal. Undertone un
settled.

The prices reflect actual trading
prices on Egg Clearinghouse, a
nationwide trading center for
producers, packers and
marketers.

Placements
Up 45 pet.
Placements of broiler chicks in
the Commonwealth during the
week ending October 27, 1973
were 1,293,000. The placements
were 45 percent above the
corresponding week a year
earlier, but 10 percent below the
previous week. Average
placements during the past 10
weeks were 15 percent above a
year earlier.
Settings for broiler chicks were
2,082,000 - 3 percent above the
previous week and 24 percent
above the comparable period a
year earlier. The current 3-week
total of eggs set is 22 percent
above the same period a year
ago..
Inshipments of broiler-type
chicks during the past 10 weeks
averaged 26,000 compared with
13,000 a year ago..
Outshipments averaged 280,000
during the past 10 weeks, 23
percent above a year earlier.
Placements in the 21 States
were 48,912,000 -12 percent below
<the previous week but 4 percent
above the same week a year
earlier. Average placements
during the past 10 weeks were 2
percent above a year ago.
Settings were 71,918,000 - 6
percent above the previous week
and 1 percent above a year
earlier. The current 3-week total
of eggs set is 2 percent below the
comparable period a year ago.
