Quarryville Bank
Declares Dividend
A five percent stock dividend
and the sale of 7,875 shares of new
stock have been declared by
Farmers National Bank of
Quarryville.
Unanimous approval was given
the proposals at a special
meeting by the bank's board of
directors and stockholders. And
consent has been received from
the United States Controller of
the Currency in Washington.
“The board and I take pleasure
in the strong backing given us by
our stockholders,” said Robert K.
Bruce, the bank’s executive vice
president.
“We believe that the growth of
our Capital assets must keep
pace with the growth of our other
assets, and that the more we
increase in size the more
customers we serve-which is
what we want to do.”
The effect of the announcement
is that present stockholders will
receive one share of stock for
each 20 now held. Since no
fractional shares are awarded,
transferable warrants that can
be traded or sold were issued.
Involved are 1,125 shares of
stock.

How to Buy Iceberg Lettuce
Good quality iceberg lettuce
should be clean, with crisp, leafy,
bright green leaves. Harold
Neigh, Extension consumer
economics specialist at The
Pennsylvania State University,
says hard, heavy iceberg lettuce
which lacks green color is
overmature. These hard, solid
heads may have a bitter flavor. It
may also be difficult to separate
individual leaves from firm
heads. For the best iceberg
lettuce, look for large heads that
feel just fairly firm.
Painting Tips
If you are planning to paint
your kitchen or bathroom walls,
Extension specialists at The
Pennsylvania State University
remind you that kitchen walls are
usually covered with a film of
grease. And bathroom walls may
have steamed-on-dirt. You must
remove the grease and dirt
before painting. Wash the surfact
with a strong household cleanser,
turpentine or mineral spirits. If
the paint is gloss or semi-gloss,
cut the gloss with fine sandpaper
or steel wool so the new coat of
paint will adhere to the wall.
