Harold Neigh, Extension consumer economics specialist at The Pennsylvania State University, says hard, heavy iceberg lettuce which lacks green color is overmature. These hard, solid heads may have a bitter flavor. It may also be difficult to separate individual leaves from firm heads. For the best iceberg lettuce, look for large heads that feel just fairly firm. Painting Tips If you are planning to paint your kitchen or bathroom walls, Extension specialists at The Pennsylvania State University remind you that kitchen walls are usually covered with a film of grease. And bathroom walls may have steamed-on-dirt. You must remove the grease and dirt before painting. Wash the surfact with a strong household cleanser, turpentine or mineral spirits. If the paint is gloss or semi-gloss, cut the gloss with fine sandpaper or steel wool so the new coat of paint will adhere to the wall.
