—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 6, 1973 22 Propose Tightening Meat Sanitation Regulations All vehicles used in tran sporting inspected meat and poultry will become subject to cleanliness checks by federal inspectors, if a proposal an nounced recently by the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is adopted. The proposed amendments also require thorough removal of lye, soda solutions, and other chemicals used to clean the interiors of such vehicles. Cleaning them is the first step. Take along a Wire brush to get rid of debris when you climb the ladder to begin the inspection. A rust preventive paint may be used as a primer over a thin film of rust so long as the metal is sound. Get rid of all large flakes of rust and all dirt before putting on the primer.
