Ephrata Winners
Competition at the Ephrata
Fair began Tuesday night with a
greased pig chase and an adult
tractor driving contest.
The tractor drivers were faced
with an unusual test of skill this
time, with the addition of a
double hitch backing contest to
the regular tractor course. The
contest consisted of backing a
tractor towing a forage harvester
and forage wagon - all 10 axles -
down a marked course without
“jack-knifing” or crossing the
marked lines.
Charles Ackley, a vo-ag in
structor at Ephrata Area High
School for the past nine years,
won the event. One of the courses
he teaches is tractor safety.
First place winner in the
regular tractor driving contest
Tuesday was Leonard Kreider,
Lititz RD4.
Kreider demonstrated his
tractor driving skill by driving a
manure spreader through an
