Kreider Service Our Specialty Ph. 299-2536 Livestock Program Numerous educational livestock exhibits and demonst rations will focus attention on the advantages of using crossbreeding and planned breeding systems Other features will center on current practices being employed in the areas of feeding and management of beef, sheep.and swine Home and Family Living Ag Progress Days 73 will feature a varied program dealing with ways in which farm and urban families can cope with contrasting changes in family living Areas will include consumer information, ethnic crafts, preparation of nutritious foods, wise use of textiles, and home beautification Demonstrations will be continuous throughout each day Field Crops Demonstrations Scores of forage and gram research plots will be avail able for inspection Included will be alfalfa, corn, soybean, gram sorghum, and weed control plots, no-till corn planting, a limited crops garden living weed layout, and a turf area Also included will be information on organic gardening Youth Activities 4-H Clubs and FFA Chapters will assist in conducting educational programs for farm and urban youth which will include demonstrations on good grooming, nutrition, consumer education, small engines, and tie dying Also included will be exhibits on career opportunities, soil judging, and forage quality Hay and Silage Shows Everyone may see the Hay Show, Hay Crop Silage Show, and Corn Silage Show Farmers who wish to enter samples in the Hay Show or Hay Crop Silage Show may receive information at the local Cooperative Extension Service Office State Plowing Contest Contestants will vie for awards in the State Plowing Contest scheduled for August 28 and 29. Another educational feature will be soil injection of liquid manure and new tillage tools Commercial Exhibits Approximately 100 commercial companies will be exhibiting their newest products for farming and country living. On display will be the latest farm machinery, feeds, fertilizers, ag chemicals, and other farm and home products. Attend Ag Progress Days All people —from producer to consumer—have a stake m agriculture and everyone will see new and interesting exhibits and demonstrations. Come and observe the advancements made in agriculture and how farming and proper land use management provides food and fiber for most nations of the world. Educational Exhibits Federal and state agencies, organizations, and various departments of Penn State’s College of Agriculture will present exhibits showing the services and products they provide. This will include general agriculture, home and family living, and conservation. Environmental Improvement Those attending Ag Progress Days 73 will see a demonstration model, methane gas generator which converts agncultural wastes into usable fuel for home heating and lighting. Other exhibits will place emphasis on environmental management including the “Bressler SystenrTfor drying poultry wastes and the use of lagoons for waste disposal.
