Reserve junior breed honors
went to a senior calf shown by
Maureen Hough, Peach Bottom,
and the reserve senior ribbon was
awarded to the two-year-old cow
shown by Larry Aaron,
Quarryville.
The champion junior Jersey
showman was Karen Schmuck of
Peach Bottom. The champion
senior showman for the breed
was Larry Aaron, while reserve
senior honors went to Maureen
Hough.
There were 23 animals entered
in the Ayrshire competition. The
grand champion animal, and
reserve senior champion, was a
four-year-old owned by Daryl
Martin, Stevens. Reserve
champion honors went to the
senior breed champion, a two
year-old belonging to Penny
Halblieb and the Masonic Homes
Farms.
The junior breed champion was
a senior yearling shown by
Russell Wilson, while the reserve
ribbon went to Rhonda Shope.
Both cows were from the Masonic
Homes Farms. Rhonda Shope
took the top junior showman
prize, while Wilson claimed the
reserve junior showman ribbon.
Warren Schmuck, Peach
Bottom, was the champion senior
showman. Reserve was Brenda
Eshleman.
There were only nine animals
entered in the Brown Swiss
competition, but the four-year
old that was named grand
champion of the breed “would
have been a champion at any size
show,” in the words of Robert
Pepple, who was the type judge.
The animal, which was the only
senior animal entered, was
owned by Warren A. Schmuck,
Peach Bottom.
The reserve grand champion,
and Junior champ, was a junior
yearling owned by Lois Wanner,
Narvon Reserve junior champ
was a junior calf owned by
Jacqueline Kreider, Kinzer. The

One feature of the Lancaster County 4-H Dairy Show held
this week at the Guernsey Sales Barn was a dress-up revue
for calves.
top junior showmanship prize
went to Judy Witmer, Willow
Street, while reserve honors went
to Kevin Kreider, Quarryville. No
senior showmanship prize was
awarded.
On Wednesday, the Holstein
competition ended the 4-H events.

Sets Field Day
The annual Guernsey Field
Day will be held beginning at 10
a m. on Tuesday, August 14. Site
for the day’s activities will be
Romella Farms, Hessdale,
owned by Robert, Melvin and
Larry Brenneman.
Judging three classes of
Guernseys will begin at 10 a.m
Prizes will be awarded to top
judges Other activities will in
clude a calf drawing for 4-H
members.
A pork chop barbecue is
planned at Noon Following
lunch, a panel discussion is on tap
for the afternoon program.
Further details will be announced
prior to the August 14 Field Day.

took reserve honors.
Kathy George also took first
prize in the junior showmanship
contest for all breeds. Carol
Balmer, Lititz, was reserve
junior champion for all breeds.
Senior showmanship honors went
to Linda Witmer, champion, and
Rhoda Stauffer, reserve.
In the first year showmanship
contest, Tom Denlinger, Gap,
took top honors, while Neal
Crouse, Stevens, was reserve.
On Thursday, the District
Holstein Show was dominated by
animals from the herd of J.
Mowery Frey, Jr., Beaver Valley
Pike, Lancaster. An aged cow
owned by Frey and entered in the
100,000 pound class took senior
champion and grand champion
show honors. The junior cham
pion was a senior yearling shown
by Frey’s daughter, Sandra.
The reserve grand and reserve
senior chamo was a four-year-old
owned by Rhoda Stauffer,
Ephrata. Linda Kauffman,
Elizabethtown, showed the senior
