    Hershey School
Pernio. Plowing
The Milton Hershey School
Farms have been selected as the
site of the 1973 State Plowing
Contest, according to Max Smith,
Lancaster County Agricultural
Agent.
He said the plowing matches
will be held August 28 and 29 as
part of the 1973 Agricultural
Progress Days scheduled for
August 28-29-30 at Hershey.
The contour and small plow,
level land divisions will be held
August 28 beginning at 10 a.m.
The large plow, level land
division is scheduled for August
29, also at 10 a.m.
Smith points out that all con
testants must be declared win
ners of county eliminations prior
to entering state competition.
Twenty-six plowmen competed
for awards at the 1972 event held
in Somerset County.
The matches are under the
direction of the State Plowing
Contest Committee.

The Lancaster County Far
mers Association will hold its
annual picnic on July 28 at the
Lampeter Fair Grounds.
Barbecued pork chops will be
served starting at 7:00 p.m. Cost
is $1.50

Kirkwood, Pa. by July 24.

4-H Holds
The Boots and Saddles 4-H
Horse and Pony Club held a
Gymkhana on Sat., July 14, at the
Columbia Riding Club It was
judged by Jeff Sheffer. There
were 38 members showing their
horses and ponies. Results are as

4-H Photo Merrimaids Plan
Club Meets Fashion Show
On Monday July 16 the Mt. Joy
4-H Photography Club held its
third meeting. Eleven members
were present. There were two
visitors from the Manheim
Community Club. Lauren
Mclntyre and Trudy Nissley gave
a demonstration on photography
which will be presented at
District Demonstration Day, July
17.
William Reist, leader, com
mented on pictures brought by
club members. He also told of
different types of picture com
position and what must be
prepared for Achievement Day,
August 16.
It was decided that the next
meeting will be held July 30 at
7:00 p.m. in the Glossbrenner
United Methodist Church.

At the July 16 meeting of the
Merrimaids, a puppet show and
demonstration on making pup
pets were given by Lisa Bloom
and Kim Becker. Tammy Oliver
and Sandy Weaver also gave a
demonstration on how to make
stationery.
Treva Lefever vice-president
gave a reminder on Dress Revue
and the club’s round-up next
Monday, July 23. A fashion show
for the members’ parents was
planned after the leaders judged
the garments.
The meeting ended with a
game led by the game leaders.
