said Mr. McLean, who is also
chairman and chief executive
officer of Continental Oil Co.

served. “We shall have to re

pendent upon the Middle East
for their oil requirements.
“The diplomatic and na
tional security aspects of this
whole situation demand a
great deal of attention,” he
asserted.

tiation of “strong programs
to reduce waste in the con
sumption of energy’through
out our entire society.” He
noted that “our economy will
certainly experience rising
energy costs” a? the United
States moves from a period
of abundance to growing
scarcity of energy materials.
Nevertheless, he declared,
the consumption of energy
should be encouraged, provid
ing it is used efficiently for
socially desirable ends, be
cause “it inevitably increases
the overall efficiency of our
economy.”
The National Council on
Alcoholism estimates that
from five to ten per cent of
any given group of workers
in the nation suffer from pro
gressive alcoholism.
