Society 6
Farm Women Society 6 voted to
donate $lOO to Conestoga Cottage,
half way house for girls. They
also decided to give $l5 to the
Easter Seal campaign at their
meeting recently at the home of
Mrs. Emory Wolgemuth,
Elizabethtown RD3.
Members of the Society spent a
day at the State Hospital making
drapes, mending sheets and
dresses and helping to feed the
patients their noon meal.
The speaker for the afternoon
program was Mrs. Doris
Thomas, Extension -me
Economist. Her topic w p New
Ideas for Salads and Desserts,” a
number of which she served to
the group.

Announcement was made of
Society 22’s invitation to a lun
cheon and program in the United
Church of Christ, Willow Street.
Devotions were read by Stella
Nissley. Hostesses were Mrs.
Wolgemuth, Mrs. Charles Rife
and Mrs. Charles Nissley.
Farm Women Society 24 en
tertained their husbands at a
“Sweetheart” banquet recently
in the Ramada Inn, Lincoln High
way East.
The Rev. Elwood Mehle, Leola,
pastor of Hellers Church,

drawing program. The Rev. Ross
Noffsinger, Leola, gave the in
vocation.
Glenn Shultz, husband of Ruth
Shultz, president of the Society,
was selected to be Prince
Charming and was treated as
guest of honor throughout the
evening in recognition of sharing
his wife’s time while she serves
as Society president. Also
honored at the Sweetheart event
were Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Stoltzfus
who observed their 20th wedding
anniversary February 28. Also
Lloyd Wenger, a husband, was
observing a birthday.
The next meeting will be held
March 28 at 7:30 p.m. in the home
of Mrs. Ira Mast, Elverson, when
a white elephant sale is planned.
Society 27
Farm Women Society 27 met
recently at the home of Mrs.
Harold Gerber, Bainbridge RDI.
Mrs. Glenn Shenk served as
cohostess Mrs. Roy Sander
conducted the devotional period
and the vice-president, Mrs. John
Wolgemuth, the flag salute.
As the Safety Night feature,
Trooper Romaine Engle lectured
and demonstrated how to be
knowledgeable in “Self Defense
for Wompn”, stressing that the
best defense is to “prevent op-

provided each member with
stationary and stamps to compile
personal letters to the president
of CBS opposing the proposed
showing of x-rated movies on
television.
Recognition was given to Mrs.
Robert Dunkleberger and Mrs.
Albert Fry Jr for perfect at
tendance for the year 1972.
Welsh Mountain Medical Clinic
carried the vote for County
Project.

Society 27 is planning to en
tertain Society 11 on April 24 at
Donegal Presbyterian Church.
Several members will be
serving as hostesses for one night
to ladies who are members of the
Homemakers Club from Wayne
County Michigan, on May 2.

The March 27 meeting will be a
tour of the Hickory Farm store at
Park City. The business meeting
will be held at the Mennonite
Home, Harrisburg Pike.
Society 29
Farm Women Society 29 ob
served “Cupids Nite” recently by
attending a hockey game with
their husbands at the Hershey
Sports Arena. The Hershey Bears
showed their determination in
winning against the Boston
Bruins from the start. The final
score saw Hershey winning 4-1.
Following the game all enjoyed
a time of refreshment at the
home of Mr and Mrs. Elvin
Brenneman Cohostesses for the
evening were Mrs. Jay Bixler,
Mrs Donald Drager, Mrs.
Eugene Wenger, Mrs. David
Becker and Mrs. Ronald Ober.
The March 19 meeting will
evolve around the theme of
“Medical Center ” The speaker
will be Dr. Kenneth Brubaker
from the Northwest Lancaster
County Medical Center. Mrs.
Rheinhold Berg will serve as
hostess and Mrs. Rodney Miller
as cohostess.

Two Win Weight
Guessing Contest
A weight-guessing funfest was
part of the activities last weekend
during Farmer Days sponsored
by Sweigart Firestone, Manheim.
Two persons correctly
estimated the exact weight of a
live, Yorkshire Cross hog from
the farm of Titus Lefever,
Manheim RD4, at 198.9 pounds.
The two successful winners were
Janice Peters, Manheim RD4,
and Franklin Kreider, W. High
St., Manheim. They each won
you guessed it a hog. Not bad
for a young farm girl and a
former livestock hauler
