Glenn Weber is the newest member of the Manheim Central vo-ag teaching staff. Glenn, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Weber, is a native of Lancaster County. He grew up on a dairy farm near Bowmansville, and graduated from Garden Spot High School in 1966. He graduated this past summer from Penn State. Mrs. Weber is the former Lucy Yoder from Elverson. During that year, Glenn traveled some 60,000 miles to visit 120 business, industry and national organizations in 13 states. In the summer of 1970 he participated in an international agricultural seminar which visited farming operations in Haiti, Honduras and Guatemala. He took part in Ralston Purina’s 1970 summer institute for national FFA officers. Pennsylvania’s former Governor Sheaffer appointed Glenn to his Youth Advisory Council for 1967-68. At Penn State, Glenn was the Dairy Science Club’s student council representative, vice president of the Collegiate FFA, an announcer on the University radio stations, and president of the Penn State Coaly Society. He was a member of Alpha Zeta and Alpha Tau Alpha societies. Glenn said that he expects to approach his teaching duties with the same energy he’s exhibited in other areas. Weber was named Outstanding Senior of the Agriculture College at Penn State, and graduated with honors. Wood-Dwelling Beetles Are Usually Harmless Cut logs stored outdoors sometimes provide a winter home for several kinds of insects. Large beetles seen near the fireplace are likely long-horned or cerambycid beetles, says Lloyd E. Adams, Extension entomologist at The Penn sylvania State University. Over 300 species of them have been collected in Pennsylvania. Fortunately, these beetles do not reinfest wood or lumber in a home. Adams says that most wood-dwelling beetles are har mless A good control measure is to leave firewood, and the insects asleep inside it, outdoors until time for burning 13
