LANCASTER PH. 393-3921 4-H Livestock Judging Team Three Chester County 4-H members and their leader have been preparing for the National 4- H Livestock Judging Contest being held in Chicago today (November 25). Esther Howe, Elverson; Howard Stoltzfus, Glenmoore, and James Wylie, Nottingham, earned the right to represent Pennsylvania at the National contest when they placed first in the state at State 4- H Days in August. William Holloway, Chester County 4-H Beef Leader, is the coach of the team and accompanied them to Chicago. In Chicago, 4-H members representing various states will be competing for National James Wylie, Nottingham; Esther Howe, Elverson, and Howard Stoltzfus, Glen moore, members of the Pennsylvania 4-H Livestock Judging Team, are discussing the points of a modern steer with Coach livestock judging awards. The 4- H’ers will have the opportunity to visit many places of interest including the International Livestock Exposition and the Natural Museum of History. The 4-H' Livestock Judging Contest consists of judging classes of beef, sheep, and swine. Each class consists of four animals. The members must place the class and give oral reasons on their placings. Members place the class based on the animal’s desirability for satisfying the consumer’s demand for meat while being most profitable to the farmer and butcher. Since being named the state j. At the Eastern U.S. 4-H Livestock Judging Contest the team placed fourth. Esther had the third highest score in the contest. At the Keystone International Livestock Exposition in Harrisburg, the team placed seventh. Howard was high in dividual in swine judging while receiving the sixth highest overall score. Esther was tenth high individual in the contest. The team placed tenth at the Eastern National Livestock Show at Timonium, with Howard having the fourth highest score in beef judging. > i 21 riity
