Last Sunday afternoon Cindy
and I took a walk through the
fields and along the woodland.
We were hunting for dried
grasses. It was rather late in the
season and we found they had
dried naturally on the stalk but
still stood erect in shades of
brown, gray and white. I’m sure
that all they need is a few bright
straw flowers at the base to make
a winter bouquet.
We usually find a tree or bush
which we can’t name and so we
hunt it up in our “Tree” book.
Philip is studying his en

school. He tells me his list of
wildflowers and weeds was one of
the longest. This could be
because when we take a walk we
try to name all the plants that we
see, and so he has learned to be

unusual to find a couple |who are
third or fourth cousins. Many
times they don’t realize this
relationship until someone hunts
up their geneology.
This story is told about my
Grandfather Landis. Whenever
he told his mother about the new
girl he had met, she would say
that is a cousin. After being told
this several times he burst out
saying “Who can I go with,
everyone is my cousin.”
We’ve been having a few
unusual foods recently. My
parents gave quinces which they
got in Berks County and our son
brought a basket of mushrooms
from a friend in Chester County.
But we are willing to try most
anything. I believe that
children’s eating habits are only
as finicky as their parents eating
habits.
