She seems to have a green thumb but perhaps their rich soil and sheep manure might be part of the answer. She says she waters them wellonceaweek. Mrs. Fry is quite a collector and has a very interesting collection of nearly 400 roosters that have have come from all countries. She has tea towels and pot holders with roosters on. She has roosters made of straw, iron, glass, china etc. She has them on shelves at home and at school and scattered all around. She has about 50 cookbooks. She says “I like to cook and I like to eat, can’t you tell that?” Mrs. Fry gives us one of her 4-H Cooking Club recipes and some of her specialties. 4-H Special Vz cup uncooked rice 1 cup water Vt teaspoon salt 1 onion 1 pound ground beef 2 cups canned tomatoes 1 pint corn, drained Cook rice with the 1 cup water and Vi teaspoon salt. Brown onion and beef in skillet. Com bine tomatoes, corn, rice and 2 teaspoons salt into meat. Pour into greased casserole and bake 30 minutes in a 350 degree oven. Food will be bubbly when done. XXX Caramels 2Vz cups sugar % cup corn syrup (white Karo) Vz cup butter (4 oz.) Vs teaspoon cream of tarter 2V« cups whole milk 1 teaspoon vanilla (2Vz squares chocolate for chocolate ones) Combine 1% cups milk with sugar, Karo, butter and cream of tarter. Stir to mix only.
