30—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, September 30, 1972 Area Youths Junior Dairy Some of the best cows in Pennsylvania congregated in the Farm Show arena Monday. The scene was the 17th annual Penn sylvania Junior Dairy Show and Lancaster County who represented with top winners in almost every breed. One of the top local winners in the show was 17-year-old Donald Wenger, of Manheim R 2, who showed the grand champion Brown Swiss. Wenger’s seven-year old had been named the district FFA champion Swiss in August. An 11-year-old Cochranville youth, Kennard E. Henley 111, captured the grand champion Ayrshire ribbon for the second consecutive year with the same cow, also a seven year old. Placing second to Henley’s cow was a Lancaster County Ayrshire from Masonic Homes and shown Smith to Speak At 4-H Banquet “SPACE AGE YOUTH SPEAK OUT” is the topic for Dr. William M Smith’s, speech at the Annual Lancaster County 4-H Leadership Banquet, to be held October 3 at the Farm and Home Center. Smith is Professor of Rural Sociology from Pennsylvania State College. During the banquet the “leadership people” will be recognized for their outstanding dedication to 4-H Each five years of par ticipation in adult 4-H leadership is recognized by a pin and a certificate. This year there will be twenty-nine five year leaders; eleven ten year leaders; two fifteen year leaders; three twenty-five year leaders and one thirty year leader (Mrs. Dorothy Frey, R D.l, Stevens, Pa. 17578), that will receive recognition at the banquet. Also, two outstanding teen leaders and two outstanding news reporters will recieve momentos for their worthwhile efforts in 4-H activity. Entered as a 4-H project in the junior yearling age class, Pen ny’s Ayrshire was first named junior champion before com peting with the older cows and taking reserve grand champion honors. A Guernsey shown by Marlin Stoltzfus, Ronks Rl, won reserve senior champion and remained in the ring to take reserve grand champion bows. In the Holstein competition, Earl Stauffer, Ephrata Rl, had the reserve grand champion FFA cow, a five year old animal which had also won him reserve grand champion honors at the recent district FFA show. The junior champion FFA Holstein was shown by Paul Horning, Stevens Rl. Horning won the champion’s ribbon with his junior yearling.
