—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 26, 1972 26 It 4-H NEWS Chester County 4-H Dairy Show Results The Chester County 4-H Dairy Show was held last Saturday at the Kimberton Fair Grounds. 4-H Club members exhibited 126 head of dairy cattle, with all five major breeds represented. In the Ayrshire breed, grand champion honors went to a 7 year old cow owned by Edward Henley, Cochranville. Eddie also exhibited the reserve junior champion Ayrshire, and his sister, Sharon, had the junior champ. Eugene Kulp, Pottstown, exhibited a 3 year old cow which was named reserve grand champion of the show. Eugene also was named first [dace junior fitter of the show. His siter, Susan, was 2nd place fitter and showman in the first year catagory In the Brown Swiss competition a junior yearling heifer shown by Harry Leminger, Birchrunville, won grand championship honors. The grand champion Guernsey was a junior yearling heifer shown by Ernest Pyle, Malvern. Ernie also was exhibitor of the senior champion Guernsey. Deborah Ann Gray, Downingtown, won the reserve grand champion honors with her intermediate calf. Reserve senior champion was a 2 year old cow exhibited by Holly Scheib, Phoenixville. In the Holstein competition, the grand champion ribbon was presented to a 3 three old cow exhibited by William Hostetter, Oxford. His brother, Barry, exhibited the reserve grand champion Holstein. A senior yearling heifer shown by Wendy Sue Shaw, Chester Springs, was reserve junior champion. Wendy also won the recognition of being named reserve junior showman of the entire show. Susan Weaver, Glen Moore, received reserve junior championship honors with her junior yearling heifer. Catherine Wollaston, Toughkenamon, won the grand champion ribbon for her 3 year old Jersey. Cathy also exhibited the senior champion Jersey and was also named the reserve senior fitter of the entire show. Reserve grand champion Jersey was a semor yearling exhibited by James Wertz, of Dowmngtown. Jim also showed the reserve junior champion Jersey. In the fitting and showmanship Pay 25% Down 10 Windrowers e Harvesters contest, Bruce Andrien won Ist place in the Ist year catagory of the fitting and the showmanship contest. In the junior division, Ist place showman was Robert Nolan of Birchrunville, and his brother David, received 2nd place in the fitting contest. In the senior division, Ist place showman was Frank Mast, Elverson, and 2nd place showman was his cousin, Fred Mast, also of Elverson. Jeannine Bua, Oxford, was Ist place senior fitter. Type judges at Satuday’s show were Harry F. Roth, Assistant Manager, Atlantic Breeders Cooperative, Lancaster; and John B. Dewey, Kennett Square. Fitting and Showmanship judges were; Alan Bair, Assistant Lancaster County Agricultural Agent; and Donald Koontz, Herd Manager, Walebe Farms, Inc., Collegeville. Seventy cattle received blue merit ribbons at Saturday’s show, thereby qualifying for the District Show which will be held Advertising \1 if-B. j ILLIONS of people work every day in thousands of factories and offices to make the necessities of life. A good housekeeping banner was awarded to the club who main tained the best kept area in the barn. This honor was awarded to the Chester Valley 4-H Dairy Club, under the leadership of Mildred Seeds, Downingtown. Housekeeping judges were: Thomas Smylie, Robert Dodson, and Isaac Webster, all members of the Kimberton Fire Company.
