Lime St., Quarry viile 786-2895 New Wheat Variety Resists Hessian Fly Agricultural Experiment Station at Penn State Genetic makeup of Arthur 71 wheat causes larvae or maggots of the hessian fly to die when they attempt to feed on the stalks of the new variety, Dr Pfeifer explains This new race of hessian fly has been building up in Pennsylvania over the past three years, he claims, and will infect Redcoat, Dual, and all other available wheat varieties. Dr Pfeifer says some 25,000 bushels of Arthur 71 seed will be available for Pennsylvania farmers to plant in the fall of 1972 Penn State agronomists and county agents advise farmers to make the change to Arthur 71 as soon as they find the hessian fly has invaded their areas This new wheat averaged 72 programs Masonic Homes had the second highest milk production for Ayrshnc herds having 75 to 100 cows The 92 cows made an average of 13,634 pounds of Mature Equivalent (M E ) four pei cent milk in 305 days The Farm also earned its seventh Constructive Breeder Award This award recognizes herds in which cows bred by the owner excel in milk production combined with superior body conformation Fifty-three breeders qualified for this honor in 1971 On a twice-a-day milking schedule for 305 days, the cows made an annual production average of 13,485 pounds of milk and 543 pounds of butterfat The herd has a type classification score average ol 854 and 73 per cent of the herd was bred by the CBA winner Two o’ Masonic Homes’ Ayrshires earned special Cer tificates during 1971 for their lifetime milk production achievements, exceeding 100,000 pounds Mt Harmon Lucky Roselyn has records of 104,075 L.
