    Stanley Speaks at Egg Marketing Assoc.
The April meeting of the
Pennsylvania Egg Marketing
Association was called to order
by president Landis. Treasurer’s
report was given by Irwin
Musser.
The following guests were

Silent prayer was observed in
remembrance of Mrs. Lawless. A
motion that the Association
contribute $25 to the Kidney
Dialysis Fund as a memorial to
Mrs. Lawless was made by Russ
Knorr and seconded by Donald

Russell Knorr gave a report on
the Golden Egg Award of Ex
cellence program. He listed the

mining recipients of the award.
He pointed out that the left
portion of the card be given to
management of the restaurant
and the right portion be given to
management of the particular
marketing firm who would in
turn send that portion of the card
to the award committee. Knorr
emphasized the need of making
proper plans and arrangements
for publicity before the award
would be presented in order to get
maximum coverage. He in
dicated it would be desirable to
have additional pictures.
The membership authorized
the payment of $5OO to the Penn
sylvania Poultry Federation for
membership of the Pennsylvania
Egg Marketing Association. The
motion was made by Lehman and
seconded by Sauder
The current egg market
situation was discussed. Also
differences between the USDA
and Umer-Barry price reports
for eggs were discussed at length.
Sauder reported on the
Meeting
program for the May meeting.
The program will be an open
discussion of egg sizing. Changes
which will take place on July 1
when the uniform standards
portion of the Egg Products
Inspection Act goes into effect
will be emphasized.
Sauder introduced the speaker,
James Stanley, compliance
safety health officer of the
Philadelphia office. Stanley
reviewed the major provisions of
the standards including in
spection and enforcement
procedures. He urged those who
have not read the law and oc
cupational safety and health
standards and established
Federal standards to do so in
order to know what changes have
to be made.
He also urged the audience if
they have questions to write or

Stanley referred to record
keeping requirements under the
Wilhams-Steiger Occupational
Safety and Health Act of 1970
entitled “Safety and Health
Protection on the Job.” He also
pointed out that poster which
must be displayed in a prominent
place in the establishment to
which your employees normally
report to work. He also em
phasized the necessity to keep a
log of accidents as explained in
the record keeping publication
Following the presentation, a
lengthy question and answer
session was conducted. The
discussion centered on specific
situations and how to comply
with the regulations
Make Farm Buildings Safer
Farmers should make a safety
check of their buildings during
early spring, says the
Cooperative Extension service
Farm and Home Safety Com
mittee of Pennsylvania State
University. Stairways should be
sound and uncluttered, providing
protection around loft doors and
feed hay chutes, floors should be
repaired and light provided in
dangerous corners.
