Photo Contest for
Lancaster County
Senior High Youth
Attention: Conservation
minded, photograph-taking
youth.
The Lancaster County Soil and
Water Conservation District will
be sponsoring a photo contest for
any and all Lancaster County
Senior High School students,
residents of the County, in grades
10, 11, 12 While the contest
deadline is Friday, October 20,
now is the time to think up your
ideas and begin taking pictures.
There are
categories:
1. Beautiful Areas of the En
vironment
2 Ugly or Unshghtly Aspects of
the Environment.
3 Photo Story (Project - Before
- Activity and after Im
provement)
Entries are limited to five
photos in categories 1 and 2;
limited to three to five in
category 3
Guidelines for photo entries
are - black and white, size may
range from 4x5 to Bxlo, no size
limit on transparencies or
colored prints
Health Planning Council
Fund Raising Launched
The fund raising efforts of the
Southcentral Pennsylvania
Health Planning Council were
launched recently. Dr. J Finton
Speller, Pennsylvania Secretary
of Health, was present at the
press conference at which the
fund drive was announced
Dr Speller commended the
Southcentral agency and its
board, and said that he offers his
full support to the concepts
behind Comprehensive Health
Planning and “this auspicious—
and encouraging—development
toward better health care for
Central Pennsylvania
The Southcentral Council
encompasses the counties of
Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin,
Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon,
Williams Appointed
Tissue Culture Supervisor
The appointment of Robert J
Williams as tissue culture
production Supervisor at the
Berlin, Md poultry vaccine plant
has been announced by the
agricultural and veterinary
products division of Abbott
Laboratories
In his new position, Williams
will be responsible for setting up
a tissue culture production unit
and for the production of tissue
culture vaccines
Prior to joining the division, he
was a graduate student and
laboratory technician at
Childrens’ Hospital in Denver,
Colorado Williams holds a
Master of Science degree m
Microbiology from the University
of Denver

According to Henry Hackman,
executive assistant of the Lan
caster County Soil and Water
Conservation District, the contest
is being sponsored to interest
students, our future adult
citizens, to improve their en
vironment.

Entry blanks are being
distributed to each of the Senior
High Schools in the County, and
may be secured in these
locations. Submit completed
entry blanks and photos to Nancy
J. Burkhart, Farm and Home
Center, Room 4, 1383 Arcadia
Road, Lancaster, 17601, before
October 20.
Judging will be completed by a
panel of three judges, to be an
nounced later. Results of the
judging will be announced the
week of October 25.
Perry and York.
E. Nelson Read, Esq , chair
man of the fund drive, accepted
two sizeable checks, one from a
commercial group and one from
a voluntary health agency. The
gifts, totaling over $3,000, were
presented by Mrs. Jane
Alexander, Escr., an officer of the
York-Adams Respiratory Health
Association and Albert Adee, vice
president of Educators Mututal
Life Insurance Company.
These two initial gifts mark the
beginning toward achieving the
agency’s goal of $63,000.
The Southcentral agency will
be working to assure that the best
possible health care is available
to the greatest number of people
at the most affordable cost.

Mrs. Orville Freeman, wife of the ex
secretary of agriculture, was in the Lititz
area on Monday stumping for Hubert
Humphrey. She visited the Paul Minnich
farm, Lititz RO 3, and is shown here looking
