April 8. 1 T" 1 I 1 i ' da ' S 1 W* bo ’ >• The Easter season isn’t traditionally a gift-giving time but our girls usually ipake something to share. The youngest made ten cards to mail to relatives. The middle girl has made an apron for me each year. However, this year she was doing something dif ferent with her vacation days. She was painting her bedroom and I appreciate her effort. The oldest girl makes neckties for her Daddy and knits sweater for the boyfriend and her brothers It is wonderful to be young and full of ambition These days I have to push myself just to plant the peas, weed the strawberries, trim the grapes and raspberries, plus raking all those little twigs off the lawn. There seems to be more than other years. XXX 'Decisions, decisions, decisions. Balance of Nature? Di. Norman E Borlaug, who won the Nobel Peace Prize for his wheat breeding program to feed under-developed countries, talked about the so called "Bal ance of Nature” while in New York recently. He said he had never observed nature being in balance with anything He felt that nature deals in one excess after another. Too much rain, too little rain, drought, forest fires, volcanic eruptions, disease, starvation and other violent ac tions by nature which Dr. Bor laug has observed have con vinced him that “Balance” on the part of nature is simply another fairy tale The Nobel Prize winner feels man must use ingenuity in the form of pesticides to make the bal ance of nature a reality Ida Risser Whether to wear the blue dress or the rdd one. Whether to make tuna casserole or macaroni and cheese for lunch. But these are small compared to the decisions our college age youth must make. After you’ve graduated from college, should you accept a job in an area for which you’ve trained or another much higher paying one in a different field. My son was tempted to be a truck driver at twice the pay he could get from an agricultural agency. One feels frustrated not using the knowledge that took so many years to attain and yet money is important too. He has chosen an ag-related business. XXX All of the summer cottages on our farm are built in wooded areas. One of the cottages is actually built against and around big beech trees. These trees have a smooth gray bark and one of the trees at the waters edge is covered with initials which have been there over 50 years. Do people still take Sunday walks and cut initials in trees?
