Assisting with the meeting and the judging contest was Robert A Powers, Chester County ag agent The program started with a type classification demonstration by Frank Wilson, fieldman with the National Ayrshire Association at Brandon, Vt Classification is the art of putting a numerical rating on the various parts of a cow, and how well these parts blend together to make up the whole cow Wilson showed what a classifier looks for in an excellent cow The judging contest gave everyone an opportunity to try their skill on two classes of animals, a two-year old cow class and an aged cow class. While not everyone agreed with him, Robert Pepple, official judge, had good reasons to place the cows as he did. Top judges in the contest were David Hamish, Quarryville, in the adult class, and Eddie Henley, Cochranville, in youth class Following lunch Dr Frank Gendron of the Pioneer Feed Company, Rochester, Minn., spoke on feeding and care of the dairy cow. Dr Gendron stressed that cows should be treated as individuals and not mould them to an assembly line method of production. Good common cow sense is basic to longevity and high total life time production Gery Rutter, Pennsylvania State Ayrshire Association director, brought greetings from the State Association and told of the activities planned for the summer and fall Rutter is a student and part-time employee at Delaware Valley Agricultural College. Frank Wilson spoke about the activities of the National Ayr shire Association He explained the proposed changes in the by laws which will be voted upon at the forthcoming National meeting at Rochester, Minn, in April. The Club voted to cooperate with the Central Pennsylvania Ayrshire Club in holding a con signment sale in Carlisle July 12. The Club will also participate in the Pennsylvania State Ayrshire field day to be held at the Bob Dorchester farm, Albion, Erie County, July 21 and 22 A vote of thanks to the Henley’s marked the end of a most in teresting day.
