!o—Lancaster Farmim 2< Top Milk The first annual Dairy Awards luncheon sponsored by Pennfield Corporation was held on Wed nesday in York. The luncheon was Pennfield’s way of recognizing top dairy producers among their customers. Joel Habegger, general manager of Pennfield’s agricultural products depart ment, introduced the luncheon guests. Pennfield’s nutritionist Dr. Richard Peacock briefly discussed some of the ad vancements in the area of nutrition. Dairy Management specialist Robert E. Gregory presented the awards to dairy fanners for achieving excellence in milk production. High herd awards for 1971 went to Sinking Springs Farm, Inc., John S. Stoltzfus, Paul B. Zim merman, Ephrata RDI, G. Hershey Hostetler, Clarence Good, Amos E. King, J. Z. Nolt and Guy A. Leader and Sons, York. The award for high butter fat increase went to Clarence Good. Awards for the 1971 high record cows went to Jesse G. Balmer, Nutrititious milk shakes get the nod as mealtime beverages or between meal snacks that pack plenty of energy and body building protein. Cold whole milk is 90 per cent fat free, so for a healthy between meal pick-me up or accompaniment to a light meal, blend milk with dried apricots, sugar and vanilla ex tract in an electric blender ‘til smooth. Lentz, Lebanon; Hubert Miller, Myerstown; Harold J. Ranck, Cochranville; Rutter Bros. Dairy, York; Sinking .Springs Farm, York RDS; Young Bros., Peach Bot tom; Ann and Nelson Young, West Grove, and Paul B. Zim merman, Ephrata RDI. The top producing cow was Hill Grit Osbomdale Forward, owned by Sinking Springs Farm, York. She produced 33,110 pounds of milk and 1251 pounds butter fat in 355 days. , Mr. & Mrs. u. t-rank Eshelman, R.D. 1, Manheim, won a High Record Cow award at the Pennfield Dairy Awards Luncheon. Mrs. Jesse G. Balmer and son Jesse Lee were among the award winners at the Dairy Awards Luncheon sponsored by The Pennfield Corp. The Balmers, of R.D. 4, Lititz, were honored for two high producing cows in 1971.
