Presenting the award as Mrs. Nestleroth looks on is Eugene Wingert, St. Thomas, chairman of the Pennsylvania Pork All American Selection Committee and a director of the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council which sponsored the award. The money for the award was contributed by Shell Oil Co. Nestleroth will use the money to attend the American Pork Congress March 21-23 in Kansas City, Mo., where he will be further honored. The award was presented Monday at a meeting of the Pennsylvania Swine Breeders Cooperative. Nestleroth produces 1,300 head of market hogs annually. Twin Valley FFA Meeting A regular meeting of the Twin Valley FFA was held recently in the vo-ag classroom with 18 members present The meeting was brought to order by the president, Frank Stoltzfus, using the official FFA opening ceremony The secretary’s report was read by Jim Stoltzfus, acting secretary, and approved as corrected President Frank Stoltzfus gave a lew brief statements on the Farm Show in Harrisburg which the FFA attended Wednesday, January 12 The Twin Valley FFA also attended the 43rd midwinter convention of the Pennsylvania FFA Association Speakers at the Convention were The Honorable James A McHale, State Secretary of Agriculture, and The Honorable Milton J Shapp, Governor of Pennsylvania Nevm Mast gave an officer’s report on the upcoming Record Book contest to be held during the month of January at Kutztown High School. Three outstanding citizens have been chosen to receive the Honorary Degree which will be presented at the annual banquet to be held March 10 in the Twin Dutch Egg Craft Shown Renewed interest in early folk crafts was evident at the 56th Farm Show Representing an authentic early craft was “Scratch Garbed Easter Eggs ” Evelyn Shaber, Ephrata, recreated the early Pennsylvania Dutch custom on hard cooked eggs which had been dyed in a solution of cooked onion skins. Authentic “Dutch” designs were then etched through the dye to show the natural color of the egg shell Designs included a thistle, heart design and the bird of paradise. Officials working with the craft exhibits complimented etching done on the eggs. They said that this carft was truly represen tative of the original craft, found referenced in early writings as long ago as 1789. Receiving top honors in macrame entries, the ancient art of knot tying, was a hanging title “Dinner at Seven ” Created by Mrs. Mary Ellen Yearick, Northumberland, Nor thumberland County, it depicted Valley High School cafeteria The former decision that the FFA would not hold the Mystery Supper with the FHA has been dropped due to new information received from the FHA. The Mystery Supper will be held Friday night, March 3, in the Twin Valley High School cafeteria. The 1971-72 program of work was distributed to all FFA members. All committees have been assigned Nevin Mast gave a brief report on the 1972 Pumpkin Contest.
