Cobb, state forester and director, Bureau of Forestry, Department of Environmental Resources, was elected president of the National Association of State Foresters at the organization’s 49th annual meeting held in Honolulu, Hawaii, recently. - Cobb is the third Pennsylvania State Forester to hold the presidency since the association was organized in 1920 through the efforts of the late Gifford Pm chot, while serving as com missioner of forestry for Penn sylvania Prior Pennsylvanians to serve as president were; R. Y. Stuart, in 1923, and R. C. Wible, in 1962. Only California and South Carolina have previously provided three state foresters as presidents. Subsequent assignments were in forest district offices at Pott sville, Blain, Warren, Wellsboro and Bloomsburg; and he has been a service forester, assistant district forester and district forester in three districts. In 1957 he was assigned to the bureau’s central office as assistant chief, Division of Forest Protection, and later headed that division from 1962 to 1966. His career was interrupted briefly during 1944-46 by service in the U.S. Army, Infantry and Engineers, with overseas duty in the Phillipines and Japan. Hilton, State Property and Supplies Secretary, said that “in response to numerous requests to auction used state cars and trucks at night instead of daytime, we will experiment with the idea this month. “The usual monthly Harrisburg auction for 150 cars and trucks,” Hilton said, “will be held at the Commonwealth Garage, 2221 Foster St., begin ning at 7 p.m., November 18.” Among the cars to be auctioned are Chevrolets, Fords and Plymouths. Models range from 1964’s through 1970’s and mileage from 52,000 through 100,000. Many are air-conditioned. Trucks include Fords, Chevrolets, Dodges and In ternationals in the Vz to V/z ton capacities in pickup, stake and van models. Mileage is from 11,000 through 149,000. Auction rules and regulations are as follows: Vehicles may be inspected through November 15th. Sales are on the basis of “as is, where Bidders may be dealers, the general public and employes of the Commonwealth or their relatives.
