Gets Grant to Study Moth The Pennsylvania Agricultural Experiment station at University Park is one of four recipients of USDA grants to study the gypsy moth. Funded by USDA’s Agricul tural Research Service, the grants will provide data for a broad program to improve the efficiency of gypsy moth control procedures and to protect the environment. The two year study under a $26,845 grant in Pennsylvania will be to develop an accurate, efficient, sampling system for each of the life stages of the gypsy moth, thereby providing a basis for different organiza tions to employ a uniform system of estimating infestations City Youths See Farms Some 20 Lancaster City youths participated in the farm visit program sponsored by the Lancaster County Soil and Wa ter Conservation District in co operation with the Boy’s Club July 21 to 23. During a tour on the first day Orval Bass, district conserva tionist, narrated a tour of vari ous farms with conservation practices. The tour included the old landfill, the county farm, the Jay Garber farm, the Lan caster Area Eefuse Authority transfer station, and Speedwell Forge Lake. A picnic was held at East Petersburg Community Park on Friday under the direction of the Millersville Jaycees and William Rohrer, Millerville RD, project committee chairman. Henry Hackman, conserva tion district executive director, reported that farm families were impressed with the know ledge and behavior of the chil dren, who were in the 10 to 14 age group and of mixed color.
