I—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, May 8,1971 District 4-H Show - Sale $?4-H Clllb NeWS $0 Slated December 7-8 The Southeast District 4-H Beef Show and Sale will be held at the Union Stock Yaids De cember 7 and 8, according to Max Smith, Lancaster County agricultural agent Of the three counties partici pating, Lancastei County re ported 130 steers on feed, and Chester and Dauphin counties reported 36 each Since some of these animals will be held for the Farm Show, Smith said he expects about 125 for the an nual District Show and Sale The Union Stock Yards Com pany will again furnish suitable show and sale facilities The sale will again be spon sored by the Lancaster Live stock Exchange William Mc- Coy Jr is president The steers will amve Tues day, December 7 and will be judged and sold on December 8. 4-H Club Congress 4-H’er’s interested in attend ing the annual 4-H Club Con gress at Penn State June 21 to 24 have been asked to contact or call the Extension Office, 394-6851, by Wednesday, May J 2. The statewide program is available to all 4-H’ers over 13 years of age. Landisville 4-H Sewing News Reporter, Peg Meley Help Sought for 4-H Nutrition Both participants and leaders, including teens and adults, are being sought for the expanded nutrition youth program, accord ing to Mrs Kay Maisano, nutri tion assistant with the Penn Banks Get 4-H Awards Two area banks received the 4-H Silver Clover awards Wed nesday night at the annual Lan caster County Bankers Associa tion meeting. Receiving the awards for contributions to the nationwide 4-H bank campaign were the Farmers National Bank of Quarryville and Commonwealth National Bank, Lancaster. The awards were presented by Jay W. Irwin, Lancaster County as sociate agriculuual agent. Guests at the banquet in the Host Town Motel were repre sentatives of 4-H, FFA and FHA. Speaker was Dr. William M. Mrs Maisano said the pro gram is primarily available :o youths from nine to 19 who war.; to be 4-H members, but there 3 also material in the program for children as young as three. While the emphasis is on food and nutrition, other 4-H projects are available, she said. She expressed particular in terest in getting older 4-H mem bers, from 15 to 19, who would like to be Teen Leaders Teens are particularly needed in the Lancaster and Solanco areas, she said Some adult project lead ers are also needed, she said. The program is designed to reach children who have not had this type of club experience.
