heifers generally 50c
higher, cows 50c-75c lower,
bulls steady.
Price upturns in the whole
sale beef trade last week and
early this week proved to be a
bullish factor in the live trade.
Both slaughter steers and
heifers registered price advan
ces on Monday in face of an
improved demand and reduced
receipts. However, both classes
encountered somewhat narrow
er demand on Wednesday
prices weakened slightly.
Overall finish of slaughter
steers about like last week with
12 per cent Prime and 70 per
cent Choice, compared with 17
per cent Prime and 72 per cent
Choice last year. Heifer supply
mainly High Good to Low
Prime weighing 825-1050 lbs.
SLAUGHTER STEERS: On
Monday, load Prime 1225 lbs.
brought 35.90, highest price
since June, 1969. On Wednes
day, Prime 1160-1325 lbs. Yield
grade 3 and 4 35.25-35.50, load

short of fancy quality eggs but

good. Carton orders good from
small retail outlets but eased
up to last minute store-door
deliveries to the major chain
stores. Spotty feature activity
noted on both large and medi
