Alfalfa Weevil
On Decline Here
20
The alfalfa weevil appears to
be on the wav out m Pennsylvan
ia. accouimg to the Cooperative
Extension Sci vice, which reports
that damage caused by this pest
was way down in 1969.
A decline in damage began
four jeais ago, but this past year,
the damage was so low in most
fields that spray protection was
rot necessaiy, the service re
poits.
There is no way to determine
just what the damage from the
weevil will be in 1970, but the
service predicts that weevil pop
ulations will be low enough to
keep damage levels low, perhaps
even lower than in 1969.
