Bradford County To Host
State Plowing Contest
Pennsylvania’s top 42 plowmen
—all winners in county competi
tion—will be vying for state
championship honors in the State
Plowing Contest to be held Aug
ust 27 in Towanda, Bradford
County.
The plowing championships
will be one of the feature attrac
tions of the 1969 Agricultural
Progress Days scheduled at Fox
Chase Farms adjacent to the
Towanda Airport.
Agricultural Progress Days,
which will also feature thiee
dairy shows, forage and forestry
field days, and a women’s pro
gram. is being sponsoied by the
Coopeiative Extension Services
of The Pennsylvania State Umv
eisity and Cornell Univeisity,
Pennsylvania Grassland Council,
and State Plowing Contest Com
mittee.
“Plowmen will be competing
in three devisions again this
year,” said Charles Slaton, of the
U.S. Soil Conservation Service,
Harrisburg, contest chan man
“These include small plow, level
land (two and three bottoms);
large plow, level land (four bot
tom or larger), and contoui,” he
added.
A special Women’s Invitational
Plowing Contest will be added to
the state event for the first time
in 1969, Slaton pointed out This
contest was initiated to give wo
men an opportunity to exhibit
their skills in level land plowing

at the field days site, only 43 con

pete for awards,” Slaton said.
“This includes 42 in the contour,
small plow, and large plow cate
gories, and six in the women’s
invitational matches.”
