Clair has worked with sheep all his life, showing at many of the major shows and working m the sheep barns for three years at Penn State So it will be sheep as the major enterprise foi the Zerby family in their new faim home The local Vo- Ag instructor has been studying management methods and plans to pattern his operation into both a 300 head commercial sheep farm and a proving pro giam for about 75 Registered Hampshires The program, to follow the methods used by Lit ton Charolais Ranch in Chilh cothe, Missouri, will use artifi cial insemination from all the Registered ram lambs on the commercial breeding ewes Weight gams and feed conver sion data will be recorded to give a basis of selection of sires and a pedigree background for saleable rams from his register- I ed flock. The farming program will be mostly grass and hay with only 8 or 10 acres planted in corn for silage The present Zerby flock has its background from the Green Meadow Farm of Edward and Aithur Hess, Leola R 1 and in the near future Clair plans to pick up 35 more ewes m Indiana of the same breeding to give him a good flock of related stock to start his proving pfo gram Zerby came to Warwick in 1965 and has guided the Vo-Ag program there until the enroll ment for next year will be at an all-time high of 43 students. Martin spoke on the subject of farm safety entitled, “It’s Your Life”.
