PA.’S POTATO CROP A revised estimate of the state’s potato ciop indicates a production of 7,980,000 hundred weight An October 1 survey by the Penna Crop Reporting Ser vice reveals the crop will be re duced by 12 percent fiom a year ago but would be 14 percent above the five-year (1962-66) average. Yield per acre is expected to reach 210 cwt., second only to the record 1967 yield of 240 cwt Total acreage for this year’s crop is 38,000. The Service reports harvest of major fall varieties nearly 40 percent completed by October 1 with quality considerably better than in recent years.
