Good Job Of
Farming
Xt’s a great feeling to know that you are the
master of your farmlands . . . that when you
treat your soil right, it will treat you right.
Taming is one of the most important factors in
keeping your soil in the highest productive
range. By raising the pH from a level below
6.0 to 6.5 or higher, you can expect to harvest
.8 more tons of alfalfa per acre, with similar
increases for all other forage and cash crops.

The process can help give more
of a fresh fruit flavor and
aroma to frozen, instant, and
canned citrus products. Improv
ed flavor in the instant orange
juice resulted from adding
orange essence, as well as lock

Margarine Uses
Animal Fat Too
“Judging from the advertising
of the margarine companies as
well as recommendations made
by some physicians, newspaper
medics and food faddists, one
would gather the impression that
all oleomargarine is manufac
tured from unsaturated fats,
principally corn oil or safflower
seed oil.
“However, this does not seem
to be the case. According to the
U. S. Department of Commerce
ed the Pa. State Grange yeast
breads contest. The local con
test for white bread and dinner
rolls will be held at the next
meeting August 26 with first
and second prizes offered in
each class.

True, of the total 92.3 million

as against 99.7 million pounds in
April.
‘‘There were 12.8 million
pounds of corn oil (in May) and
13.9 million in April. But, there
were 12.2 million pounds of lard
and edible tallow consumed in
margarine for May and 11.4 mil

words, the amount of corn oil
used in processing was not too
far apart from the amount of
lard and edible tallow used.”

Easier Threading
The eye of a needle will be
easier to thread if you thiead
the end that comes from the
spool instead of the end you
just cut off. It’s the twist of the
thread that makes the differ
