Margarine Uses
Animal Fat Too
“Judging from the advertising
of the margarine companies as
well as recommendations made
by some physicians, newspaper
medics and food faddists, one
would gather the impression that
all oleomargarine is manufac
tured from unsaturated fats,
principally corn oil or safflower
seed oil.
“However, this does not seem
to be the case. According to the
U. S. Department of Commerce
ed the Pa. State Grange yeast
breads contest. The local con
test for white bread and dinner
rolls will be held at the next
meeting August 26 with first
and second prizes offered in
each class.
Donald Campbell, Bethesda,
presented colored slides of the
Susquehanna River from its
sources to the Chesapeake Bay
and told many interesting facts
relating to the river.
There will be nominations for
new officers at the next meeting
August 26 and election Septem
ber 9.

True, of the total 92.3 million
pounds were soybean oil in May
as against 99.7 million pounds in
April.
‘‘There were 12.8 million
pounds of corn oil (in May) and
13.9 million in April. But, there
were 12.2 million pounds of lard
and edible tallow consumed in
margarine for May and 11.4 mil
lion pounds for April. In other
words, the amount of corn oil
used in processing was not too
far apart from the amount of
lard and edible tallow used.”
