Around the House
Duties around the house can
give young children a sense of
importance and belonging to the
family. But remember that chil
dren always want to do jobs be
yond their ability and older chil
dren often argue about who
should do what and who has the
best job.
Preschoolers can help sort
laundry and will delight in point

In the kitchen, children can
dry silver, pots and pans, and
other unbreaka'bles.
You can also teach them how
to set the table. A chart which
shows the proper place for each
item will help. You can post
this guide on a wall near the
table.
School age children may find
chore cards a bi 1 of mystery
and put an end to many argu
ments. List tasks on cards Let
each child draw an assignment
each day
When you plan to ask older
children to assist with a big job,
such as cleaning a garage, it’s
best to give them some advance
notice. See that the jobs are
such that time and energies
available will not be overtaxed.
Then let them assume their own
responsibility for the task, plan
ning it, and completing it on
their own.
