Safety check your car sever al days before the trip. Enlist Help of Children Around the House Duties around the house can give young children a sense of importance and belonging to the family. But remember that chil dren always want to do jobs be yond their ability and older chil dren often argue about who should do what and who has the best job. Preschoolers can help sort laundry and will delight in point ing out objects that are alike such as socks. They can collect things that need no ironing and carry small stacks of folded ar ticles to their proper places. If you lang your laundry on a clothesline, children can hand you clothespins and learn to count at the same time. A chart which shows the proper place for each item will help. You can post this guide on a wall near the table. School age children may find chore cards a bi 1 of mystery and put an end to many argu ments. List tasks on cards Let each child draw an assignment each day When you plan to ask older children to assist with a big job, such as cleaning a garage, it’s best to give them some advance notice.
